Light-cure one component glassionomer cement which compensates by controlled expansion the polymerization shrinkage
of composites. The material is dual curing:
Light-cure compensation
Ionic cement reaction
Dentstar Baseliner is radiopaque, and the ionomer glass used contains zink and
fluoride ions. In combination with composite in a ratio of ca. 1/5 layer thickness Dentstar Baseliner
and 4/5 composite the contraction stress and marginal gaps are compensated.
Preparation
The tooth is cleaned with fluoride-free pumice. Rubber dam is the recommended method of isolation. Cavity preparation:
Prepare the cavity with minimal tooth reduction. Bevel cavo surface enamel margins. Sound dentin or enamel should be
preserved as much as possible due to Dentstar Baseliner's good adhesion to tooth structure. Undercuts are not necessary.
Pulp Protection/Etching
If the remaining dentine layer is <1,5 mm cover those areas in close proximity to the pulp using a hardsetting
calcium hydroxide material. Etch the prepared enamel margins with etching gel referring to manufacturer's instructions
for use. Avoid etching gel contact with oral soft tissues, eyes or skin. If accidental contact occurs, flush immediately
with copious amounts of water.
Application of a primer
Application of the dentin primer leads to even better adhesion to dentin.
Application of Baseliner
Apply Dentstar Baseliner with a brush or ballpointed instument to the whole dentine area. The layer-thickness should
be 1/5 of the whole restoration thickness. Cure at least 20 seconts with a dental light-unit. If the cavity is very deep
the material must be placed and cured in layers (ca. 1,5 mm, 20 s each). Suitable are light-units for dental use,
which emit halogen light in wavelengths from 450-470 nm (blue light), eg. Translux (Kulzer), Pluraflex (Litema), (do
not use UV-light). The times mentioned refer to the use of such light units. To achieve the same depth of cure using
other light units possibly the user must pay attention to different curing times.
Placement of Composite
Apply the composite filling material referring to manufacturers indications for placement, curing and finishing.
Recommended is the application of Superflux SOLAR for anterior and Superflux UNIVERSAL HYBRID for posterior restorations
because Dentstar Baseliner will copolymerize perfectly with these materials. The oxygen-inhibited layer should not be
removed. There is no need for an additional bonding layer.
Important Remarks
Cleaning of instuments: Dentstar Baseliner adhers to metal instruments and should therefore be removed with cold water
before having set.
Note: Dentstar Baseliner is light sensitive. To prevent activation by light exposure, protect the material from ambient
light by closing the lid immediately after use.
Shelf life of Dentstar Baseliner is 3 years when stored at <23 °C (74 °F). Do not use after the expiry date.
