Product Information
Dentstar Composite Resin-Based Dental Restorative Material contains 63% by volume of a blend of a very fine
particle size X-ray opaque glass and silica filler with average particle diameters of 5 and 15 microns. The organic
matrix is based on Bis-GMA resin. It is recommended for use in Class II and Class V restorations and for limited use
in Class I restorations in premolars and selected class IV restorations where aesthetics is of primary importance.
Tooth/Cavity Preparation
Follow usual procedures for tooth or cavity preparation. Exposed dentine must be protected by calcium hydroxide
preparation. Glass lonomer or other suitable base can be used to cover the preparation. Otherwise, no special liner
is required.
| Etch Surfaces |
Apply etchant to surface of teeth using brush or cotton pellet. |
After 15 seconds flush area completely. On primary teeth and highly mineralized teeth, approximately 2 minets is advisable. |
Air dry etched surface. The etched surface should have a dull, whitish frosted appearance. If not, repeat etching procedures. |
| Prime Surfaces/Mix/Application |
Apply a thin uniform coating of enamel bonding resin immediately onto each etched tooth surface. |
Dispence equal amount of base and catalyst paste on the mixing pad. Jars should be tightly capped immediately after use. |
Spatulate the base and catalyst paste 20 seconds to get a uniform mix. 1-2 strokes per second. |
Insert the mixed composite paste into the dried prepared cavity using a non-metallic instrument. Use a slight excess and apply matrix band. A mylar band is preferred over metal. |
The composite will begin to harden 2 minutes from the beginning of the mixing time. It will set during the next 2 minutes
and should not be disturbed during this period. Another 2 minutes will complete the hardening time. After 6 minutes the
matrix band may be removed.
| Finishing |
At the end of 6 minutes from the beginning of mixing, remove feather flash with a sharp instrument. If necessary, finish using a diamond or carborundum stone, or carbide bur. Other polishing materials are available. |
| Precautions and Warnings |
Avoid contact of etchant with soft tissue and dentin. Wash immediately if accidental spill occurs. |
Dentstar Composite is formulated to be used in room temperature. Shelf life is at least 2 years when handled properly. |
Kits can be refrigerated to extend shelf life. |
Do not store materials in proximity of eugenol-cantaining products. |
Do not expose material to elevated temperature or intense light. |
Be certain to avoid cross-contamination of the pastes. The presence of either paste in the over will result in hardening of the paste in the jars. |
Never use a disposable spatula a second time. A used spatula would be a source of contamination. |
Do not use a metal spatula for mixing the composite dental restorative material. |
Keep the composite material jars covered when not in use. |
Keep under 22 °C
